However, his presence in American rocketed immigration enforcement to the front pages of the papers. Charlie Crist An Independent – Florida Governor Charlie Crist will no longer be running as a republican, and will instead present himself as an independent when he fights for the state Senate. Crist, who is 53 years old, had a lead in the polls during the GOP primary, but the numbers have dropped off in recent weeks after the more conservative Marco Rubio began his campaign. In the recent April poll that was held by Quinnipiac University Crist is trailing Rubio 56% to 33% .
There have been many rumors regarding what Crist’s future plans were after he fell so far behind in the polls. In recent weeks numerous republican figures including former vice president Dick Cheney and Mitt Romney have rushed in to support Rubio in his bid for the Senate seat in Florida. This means that Crist will have to seek help and funds from organizations other than the GOP and other grassroots campaigns that exist in Florida.
“If anyone can do it, Crist can.” said Virginia rep. Tom Davis, a republican.
