Public Option Health Care Plan:Harry Reid Reform Compromise – Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid emerged from the Capitol this evening with some breaking news that will one way or another affect the nation.Reid told reporters that after six days of intense negotiations they have finally struck a tentative agreement to replace the controversial government-run insurance plan aka public option in their version of health-care legislation.He said:

“We have a broad agreement.Tonight, we’ve overcome a real problem that we had.”

Reid explained that the decision will please President Obama.

Massachusetts Senate Primary:Attorney General Martha Coakley Wins – Just moments ago,Attorney General Martha Coakley has won the Democratic nomination in the race to succeed the late Sen. Edward Kennedy.Coakley has managed to beat Rep. Michael Capuano,City Year co-founder Alan Khazei and Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca and is hoping to become the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts.

On the Republican side, State Sen. Scott Brown has defeated attorney Jack E. Robinson.
Brown and Coakley will battle it out in the general election that is set to take place on Jan. 19,2010.

Bernanke Speech Today – Bernanke Speech can be found here.Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke delivered a speech in front of the Economic Club of Washington, D.C. yesterday where he talked about keeping interest rates at a record low for “an extended period” and the fact that U.S. now faces “formidable headwinds,” Bernanke said:

“We still have some way to go before we can be assured that the recovery will be self-sustaining.My best guess at this point is that we will continue to see modest economic growth next year — sufficient to bring down the unemployment rate, but at a pace slower than we would like.”
