Obama On Henry Louis Gates Arrest – President Obama is in hot water after saying that the police officer “acted stupidly” for arresting his friend Henry Louis Gates who is an African American. The president of the Cambridge Police Patrol Officer’s Association Stephen Killion is upset at Obama’s statement and said:

“That was totally inappropriate. I am disgraced that he is our commander-in-chief. He smeared the good reputation of the hard-working men and women of the Cambridge Police Department. It was wrong to do. It was disgraceful.”

Officer Sgt. James Crowley who arrested the Harvard Professor added:

“I support the president of the United States 110 percent. I think he was way off base wading into a local issue without knowing all the facts as he himself stated before he made that comment.”

Obama may be in a pickle according to Alan J. McDonald who is the lawyer for Crowley’s union, Cambridge Police Superior Officers Association:

“I suspect that when the full picture comes out, he will regret the remarks he made.”

While I have very little trust for some of the unchecked power that police have, I also have very little trust for the unchecked power that Prof Gates was able to use with some phone calls to friends in high places.

Gates wasn’t the victim of racism. Rather, he enjoyed the perk of privileged society by getting the charges against him dropped, and threatening the career of a police officer doing his job.
