Harry Reid Public Option Announcement – Harry Reid is a hero or a traitor depending on which side of the political aisle you stand.Earlier today Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made a bit of surprising announcement when he revealed that the health insurance bill,he will be bringing to the Senate floor in the upcoming days will include a public health insurance option that individual states could decline to participate in aka opt-out public option.He said:
“I’ve concluded –with the support of the White House, Senators Dodd and Baucus — that the best way to move forward is to include a public option with the opt-out provision for states.The public option, with an opt-out, is the one that’s fair.”
Reid added:
“We’ve spent countless hours over the last few days in consultation with senators who’ve shown a genuine desire to reform the health care system. And I believe there’s a strong consensus to move forward in this direction”.
So what does the president think about the new revamp opt-out public option? According White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs :
President Obama is pleased that the Senate has decided to include a public option for health coverage.”
Canada started with the opt-in/opt-out option which eventually lead to single payer,do you think America will follow the same path?
