Obama Focuses on Harry Reid 2010 Re-Election – The White House and several other allied campaign committees were working long hours in order to compile a list of midterm campaigns to be prioritized. However, the actual decision process had little debate over which race would be their top priority, specifically regarding the re-election of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. His re-election has been a long and drawn out fight in Nevada and seeing the Democrat’s approval ratings started to fall there were reasons to worry.
However, one part operative writes, “He’s the goddamn leader.” This statement put the situation very clear that the Senate and the Democratic Party will protect its leaders.

Final Financial Reform Bill House Passage – It’s been close to two years since the meltdown in Wall Street that sent the economy on a downfall. The recession sent the United States economy into a dark hole that we haven’t seen as a country since the hard times of the Great Depression. While things weren’t nearly as bad this time around, they were an alarming wake-up call that something needs to be done. Suddenly, we’re seeing change in America as the House of Representatives voted Wednesday to pass a huge bill that will provide a complete change in the financial reform process of the government. The new bill will extend the government’s capabilities to interact with businesses and other companies.

A number of concerns have been raised regarding Elena Kagan, President Barack Obama’s choice for Supreme Court Justice. Republicans have stated that she simply does not have enough experience in the courtroom to effectively carry out the job that she was assigned to do. Kagan made headlines following her nomination. Rumors began to spread that she was homosexual, and eventually the term became one of the top terms on Google. Quickly, several former friends came to her aid and claimed that the rumors were not true, saying only that she was a private individual and wanted to remain that way, despite her nomination.

At one point, he too was considered to be the underdog in his party during the general election. He would go on to be elected the President of the United States. So, when Bill Clinton has something to say to democrats -they listen, because he knows what he is talking about.
“Never give up,” he said to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and a handful of other Democrats who have been beaten down by the recent primaries.
Clinton has always had a great mind for politics, and told them that getting down on themselves will only make for a more swift end to their political career.He was able to secure two terms of his own during his time in office, and made it through one of the largest scandals in the history of the White House.

Helen Thomas Israel Comments:Ari Fleischer Wants Her Fired – Helen Thomas has received a lot of attention from the media after she suggested that Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine,” and head back to the European countries in which they came from. The audio clip was captured by Rabbi David Nesenoff of Rabilive.com, and the footage quickly made its way around the Internet
. She made attempts to explain herself after the leak of the video but has not done a very good job at it.
Ari Fleischer recently suggested that she should be fired, saying that he was Jewish, and had previously liked Helen Thomas but that her recent remarks are “appalling,” and that she should lose her job over them.

Andrew Cuomo Running For New York Governor – Andrew Cuomo is serious about running for Governor, declaring his candidacy for the position on Saturday. Currently working as the New York Attorney General, Cuomo has a high approval rating within the state and would likely be able to compete with just about any candidate that they can throw at him. He delivered his announcement to a large crowd who had gathered, already knowing that Cuomo was likely going to be announcing his candidacy for the position. He said he is going to run in hopes that he will be able to turn the state around, and return New York to the great state that it once was and can be again.

John Kerry And Joe Lieberman Pressing Climate Bill – It appears that John Kerry and Joe Lieberman will be pressing onward with climate reform without former participant Senator Lindsey Graham. He had said that it was impossible to pass the legislation now because of several disagreements the crew has had regarding offshore drilling and immigration reform. The disagreement came after the passing of the recent controversial Arizona immigration bill that gave police officers the right to ask for documentation regarding legality in the country from anyone that they deemed as suspicious. Detractors of the bill have said that they believe that the bill will only lead to even more abuse of power and racial profiling in the state.

Climate Bill vs Immigration Reform – The energy and climate legislation was supposed to be unveiled Monday, but was not be because of a disagreement regarding immigration reform. The bill has received a lot of attention from Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC) in recent weeks. The trio have attempted to attract votes from both sides of the aisle in an effort to avoid a Senate filibuster. The bill has been referred to by many as the “tri-partisan” bill, because Lieberman recently declared himself an independent.

Hillary Rodham Clinton Supreme Court Buzz:Obama Says No – When Justice John Paul Stevens retired from the Supreme Court last week, it left many wondering who Obama would choose to fill his place. It is already a well established fact that anyone that is chosen by Obama will reach heavy opposition by the political right in the Senate. Recently, Senator Orrin Hatch said that he has heard Hillary Rodham Clinton’s name mentioned in discussions about who should fill the gap that was left with long time Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens retiring. Choosing Clinton to fill the vacancy seems a little unlikely, but would make for an interesting storyline.

John Paul Stevens Retires

John Paul Stevens Retires – Justice John Paul Stevens, who was a republican appointed justice, is retiring at the age of 89 after a 34 year tenure in his current position. In his time as a justice, John Paul Stevens solidified himself as the leader of the Supreme Court’s liberal wing. Stevens sent a letter to the President that stated that he believed that it would be in the best interest of not only himself, but the court for him to step down and have his successor appointed and confirmed in advance of the commencement of the court’s next term.
This announcement had been rumored for months, however Stevens was expected to postpone any announcement until after the high court’s oral arguments came to a close near the end of the month. Stevens will remain on the court until his term comes to an end this summer.
Republicans are expected to keep a close eye on the next justice that Obama chooses to appoint.
“As we await the president’s nominee to replace Justice Stevens at the end of his term, Americans can expect Senate Republicans to make a sustained and vigorous case for judicial restraint and the fundamental importance of an even-handed reading of the law,” stated the Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
