Tennessee Election Results:Phil Roe,Steve Cohen Win
August 7, 2008 by Dylan · Leave a Comment
Tennessee Election Results:Phil Roe,Steve Cohen Win-Tennessee election results are in and Phil Roe is the big winner tonight.Phil Roe has managed to beat freshman Rep. David Davis by a 500-vote margin in the very Republican 1st District in the northeastern corner of the state.David Davis unwillingly made history by being the first Tennessee congressman to lose a primary since 1966 after a damaging campaign in which he was accused of selling out to oil companies. With all precincts reporting, Roe had 25,916 votes, or 50 percent of the vote, to Davis’ 25,416 votes, or 49 percent.Unofficial results in the 9th District, in Memphis, where a racially charged Democratic primary campaign ended with an ad featuring the Ku Klux Klan, showed Democrat Steve Cohen with 79 percent of the vote to 19 percent for Nikki Tinker, who is a black corporate lawyer. The campaign turned nasty when Tinker ran a television ad juxtaposing photos of Cohen, who is Jewish, and a hooded Ku Klux Klan member.Tinker’s supporters argued the district, which is 60 percent black and 35 percent white, should be represented by a black candidate.
Tinker said her ad linked Cohen to the KKK because he opposed a 2005 effort to remove a statue of Confederate Gen.The ad drew condemnation from Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Kathy Hilton Slams John McCain
August 3, 2008 by Dylan · Leave a Comment
Kathy Hilton-Kathy Hilton is blasting John McCain for releasing an ad featuring her daughter Paris and Britney Spears.Hilton wrote in a blog on the Huffington Post:
I’ve been asked again and again for my response to the now infamous McCain celebrity ad. I actually have three responses. It is a complete waste of the money John McCain’s contributors have donated to his campaign. It is a complete waste of the country’s time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs. And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next President of the United States.
Kathy Hilton and her husband donated a total of $4,600 to McCain’s campaign earlier this year.
Obama The One Video
August 1, 2008 by Dylan · Leave a Comment
Obama The One Video – Obama The One is the the title of a new attack ad against Barack Obama released by John McCain’s camp earlier today. In the clip they compare Obama to Moses. Here is the full script of the ad:
“We are the ones we’ve been waiting for,” Obama says, in his Super Duper Tuesday speech in California. The narrator continues: “And he has anointed himself, ready to carry the burden of The One. To quote Barack, ‘I have become a symbol of America returning to our best traditions.’”
As we covered earlier in the week, that quote was actually Obama telling House Democrats that the big crowds and enthusiastic receptions he received in Europe had less to do with him than they had to do with a desire for a new U.S. foreign policy. In a way, it was more a statement of humility than arrogance.”He can do no wrong,” the narrator says.
Cut to an excerpt of CBS’s Lara Logan asking Obama, “Do you have any doubts?”
“Never,” Obama says, smiling.
“Can you see the light?” asks the narrator.
You can watch the video after the jump.
