Abdul Mudallad Flight 253 Attempted Terrorist Attack – Abdul Mudallad terrorist attack/Detroit terrorist plot/Detroit plane attacked by terrorist these are the shocking headlines to hit Americans on Christmas day 2009.A 23 year old Nigerian man named Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab tried to blow up a Northwest Airlines plane Friday carrying 278 passengers as it was preparing to land in Detroit.Abdul Mudallad who said he was an agent for al-Qaida was subdue by three other passengers when they smelled smoke and heard what sounded like firecrackers.Peter Smith who was on Flight 253 explained what occurred by saying:
“It sounded like a firecracker in a pillowcase.First there was a pop, and then (there) was smoke.
Then,a young man behind me jumped on him.Next thing you know, there was a lot of panic.”
The White House was quick to release a statement that said they believed it was an attempted act of terrorism and stricter security measures were quickly imposed on airline travel but added that Obama will not discontinue his vacation plans in Hawaii.
